Frequently asked questions
How do I share an ingredient?
Tap the + button in the tab bar. Add a photo or pick an icon, name the item, describe the amount and condition, and set a pickup window. Tap Post — it's live instantly and always free.
How do I reserve something?
Open any listing and tap Reserve. The sharer is notified and a pickup code is generated for you. Show that code to the sharer when you collect the item — it confirms the handoff.
How does the pickup work?
After reserving, you'll receive a unique pickup code. Use the in-app chat to agree on a time with the sharer, then meet at the location they specify and show your code. The sharer marks the item as picked up and the listing closes.
Is it really free?
Yes, always. FoodXChange is a community service. There are no fees, subscriptions, or payments of any kind — for sharers or receivers.
How do I stay safe?
Meet in publicly visible locations. Ask the sharer about allergens, ingredients, and storage before accepting food. Don't take food that looks or smells off. See the food safety section in our Terms of Service for the full guidance.
How do I delete my account?
Email us at support@thefoodxchange.com with the subject line 'Delete my account'. We'll remove your account and all associated data within a few business days and send you a confirmation.
Safety tips
- Always meet in a well-lit, public place — a front doorstep, lobby, or nearby open area.
- Ask about ingredients and allergens before accepting any food.
- Do not consume food that looks spoiled, smells unusual, or has compromised packaging.
- Trust your instincts. If something feels wrong about a listing or interaction, skip it and report the user.
- Keep your personal contact details private — use in-app messaging for all coordination.
- Block and report any member who harasses you or behaves inappropriately.
